Creative visual artists, writers, musicians, and filmmakers are invited to discover the free resources at Central Library to help move their careers to the next level. Meet fellow artists, get Sue Greenberg's expert recommendations for succeeding in the business of being an individual artist, find out about funding possibilities and see what maker-space tools (i.e. the new recording studio?) you can use in the Creative Experience.

Start a Nonprofit - Mon., March 10^th   3-5 pm.

Nuts & Bolts.  Learn what’s important information to include in the Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation you file with the state department of revenue, as well as in your organization’s  IRS Form 1023 application for tax-exempt status, plus find out how to recruit and form an effective Board of Directors. Do Good Without Starting a Nonprofit - Tues., April 15th,  3-5 pm,

Want to directly  improve your community without creating and running a new nonprofit organization? Hear from veteran practitioners about the ins-and-outs, and the resulting satisfactions, of these other options

1)      effective volunteering,

2)      finding employment in the nonprofit sector,

3)      collaborating with other organizations  

4)      using a fiscal sponsor for your project.

Reminder: Career Helps for Visual Artists

Updated Details for visual artists planning to attend Central for Creatives Weds. Dec. 18, 4-5:30 pm. at Central Library's 1st floor Creative Experience digital maker space:

•  Sue Greenberg of VLAA will present and discuss her list of Top 10 Books about the legal and business aspects of promoting your visual work, 
• G&FC librarian Kim Parks will show how to quickly search for Foundation Grants to Individuals on the Foundation Center database and also distribute a list of free websites offering funding opportunities and info to individual artists,
• Fine arts subject specialist Mary Frechette will discuss the range of arts marketing resources available in the visual arts collection at Central,
• Andrea Johnson, Creative Experience specialist, will demonstrate how to use  Adobe Creative Suite 6,  and how to access the normally proprietary tutorials available free in the Creative Experience through Lynda.com. 
• Artists may also bring their own laptops to display their screens on the room’s large screen monitors.

November 2013 @ the G&FC...

We've scheduled new twists on two  of our traditional classes:

• Mon. Nov. 18, 1-3 pm. I'll streamline this hands-on tutorial for fundraisers presenting three effective  ways to search Foundation Directory Online Professional in order to add a  demonstration of some capabilities of the Philanthropy In/Sight database as well and still leave time for participants to work on their own. As of this posting there are still 13 places left in this class, so please contact us as soon as possible if you'd like to attend.
• Weds. Nov. 20, 4-5:30 pm -- Central for Filmmakers.  Individual and/or creative teams of local filmmakers are invited to meet in Central Library's new Creative Experience digital maker space to learn more about books, hardware, software and websites and other information now available to help move their  careers to the next level. Sue Greenberg of VLAA will recommend books about the legal and business aspects of filmmaking, I'll talk about potential funding sources and subject specialist Sean Parada will present some of the technical information about filmmaking available at Central. Then Andrea Johnson, Creative Experience specialist, will demonstrate --and help participants explore using -- IMovie, Adobe Creative Suite 6,  the collaborative nature of the space itself, and the range of normally proprietary tutorials available free in the Creative Experience

March 19 Free Kickstarter School at RAC

Creative artists seeking funding for a project who want to learn more about the popular crowd-financing platform and how it has worked in St. Louis are invited to a free "Kickstarter School"  Monday from 7-9 pm at the Regional Art Commission.
