The 2016 Capital Campaign Report Dollars and Sense: A Report on Major Funding Campaigns is officially open for submissions! (Due this week!)
Each year, the Gateway Center for Giving publishes a capital and endowment campaign report to inform grantmakers, nonprofits and other community leaders about resources being allocated toward restricted funding activities in the St. Louis region.
If your organization is considering or currently running a major funding campaign involving restricted donations, please take a few minutes to complete a short survey. The survey can be accessed by clicking here or by visiting our website www.centerforgiving.org.

How to Apply for a Lutheran Foundation Grant

For those who plan to apply to Lutheran Foundation for funding, this in-depth workshop is a helpful overview of what we consider to constitute a strong grant request and what information we look for in applications. Lutheran Foundation staff will review the application and describe the rationale for the questions, how to answer the questions for various types of projects, and give examples of what to include in your application. The workshop will also include a "crash course" training on logic models, outcomes, and evaluation, and the role they play in developing strong programs and cohesive grant applications.

October Program & Happy Hour - A Focus on Planned Giving

Many fundraisers have a basic understanding of planned giving but few organizations utilize planned giving as an on-going fundraising tool. Organizations may be comfortable accepting planned gifts such as bequests and insurance but shy away from charitable gift annuities and other planned gift vehicles. Some organizations only seek planned gifts when they are trying to build their endowment fund. In this workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the benefits of planned giving for both the donor and the organization, and will learn strategies to incorporate planned giving into their development activities.

Presenter: Lyle W. Brizendine
Lyle joined the University of Missouri-St. Louis as Senior Director of Development-Planned Giving in 2012 after concluding a career of over 35 years in the trust and investment industry, most recently as Senior Vice President and Director of the Philanthropic Management Group at Bank of America. As Director of Planned Giving at UMSL, Lyle assists donors to develop customized gift planning strategies that achieve their unique philanthropic goals and objectives in the most effective and impactful manner possible, while maximizing tax efficiency and minimizing cost of implementation.
Prior to joining the Bank of America, Lyle managed the nationwide delivery of foundation, endowment, and institutional planned giving services for TIAA-CREF Trust Company. Earlier in his career, he managed the pension and institutional trust businesses, including endowments and foundations, for predecessor organizations of Bank of America for over 20 years. He received his B.S.B.A. from the University of Missouri-Columbia, J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and LL.M. in Taxation from Washington University in St. Louis.
