Muslim Journeys Coming to Central in September

Guess what! -- we (Central Library) got a grant!*  So we're inviting you** to come share the prize -- Muslim Journeys: Islamic Art and Literature.
  • Sat. Sept. 7 -- 2 pm, Islamic Art lecture and slides by Dr. Sid Goldstein, former curator of Ancient and Islamic Art at the St. Louis art museum -- Central auditorium
  • Sat. Sept. 28, --2 pm, Koran by Heart showing of an award winning HBO documentary following the progress of three 10-year-olds competing with huffaz (those who have memorized the Quran) twice their age in Cairo's annual International Holy Koran competition.
  • Throughout September, come to the Social Sciences Room (where the G&FC is located) to find and check out specially selected books and DVD's to learn more about American Muslims, the interconnected histories of Islam and the West,  literary reflections on Muslim culture, faith pathways within Islam and diverse points of view presented by Muslim authors.   In addition, the Visual Arts Room will have a display of the library's Islamic arts and architecture collection.

2013 Fall STL NLA -- Last Chance to Apply

Friday 8-30 is the last day for local neighborhood leaders to apply to participate in the St. Louis regional Neighborhood leadership Academy --the ten (Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings) sessions offering practical training in community building, project planning, resource development and networking begin Sept. 5.
